We have limited resources and so we must be selective in our grant making. We have established guidelines for the assessment of applications but where appropriate will consider a case for departing from them.
We will also attempt to be pro-active in seeking projects which provide us with an opportunity to invest both time and resources to develop an idea and bring it to fruition.
In addition --
• Except in extraordinary circumstances we will not make more than one grant to the same organization in any 12 month period.
• We favour grant applications for purposes which will ‘make a difference'
• We will not support organizations which cannot demonstrate sound management and a financial position which gives assurance of continuity.
• Applications for grants in excess of $5,000.00 should only be submitted after a preliminary enquiry to the nominated contact person in the office of the Foundation's Administrator.
• The Fund is not an ITEF so that grants cannot be made to an organization which does not have both TCC and DGR status.
• We prefer not to fund recurrent expenditure such as salaries or capital work programmes such as buildings.
• For grants for specific projects and for asset acquisitions we require a grant acquittal report from each grant recipient within 12 months of the grant being received.
• Where applications are made to more than one grant making body we require confirmation that the other applications have been unsuccessful before paying an approved grant.
• Where an application is made to the Foundation to contribute to a project or to the acquisition of equipment, an approved grant will be paid only on receipt of confirmation that the balance of funds has been approved/received.
• We have a preference for Victorian grantees as we can more easily assess their work and the application of Foundation funds.
• We will not make grants to non-specific foundations or auspicing bodies or to any applicant where its work is conducted or its funds are applied outside Australia.
• We look favourably on community based groups which may find difficulty in sourcing government funding.
• We are interested in all areas of medical research and in particular research which has the possibility of commercialization where commercialization has the potential to itself support the research organization in the future and/or assist in retaining talented researchers in Australia. |
